Americans with Disabilities Act (ada)

In accordance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Kingsport City Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its program and activities.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a Federal civil rights act that protects the civil and constitutional rights of people with disabilities.  Section 504 states that people with disabilities cannot be excluded from or denied benefits of any program receiving Federal financial assistance.  To meet the criteria for Section 504 protections, a 504 team must determine whether a student has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Statement of Assurance of Non-Discrimination

Kingsport City Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its program or activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups. Kingsport City Schools offers classes in many career and technical education program areas under its open admissions policy.  Specifically, Kingsport City Schools offers admissions based on selective criteria in (such as meeting pre-requisite criteria; disciplinary background, etc.) through a separate application process that is nondiscriminatory.
