HISTORY

Portrait of a Graduate.

POG logoNow more than ever, an educational experience must not only provide for purposeful integration of rigorous academic content, but it must also be more intentional about cultivating skills, mindsets, and literacies essential for students to become lifelong learners and contributors in the 21st century. Now more than ever, our students need to thrive in this complex and rapidly changing world.

The Kingsport City Schools Portrait of a Graduate is a collective vision that reinvigorates and re-engages students, educators, and community stakeholders. This vision provides strategic direction for the design and overall educational experience for students. A KCS graduate will be a continuous learner who demonstrates perseverance, critical thinking, empathy, adaptability, and integrity.

VISION

Educational. Design. Geared Toward. Experience.

The Kingsport EDGE is a Pre-K - 12th grade initiative at Kingsport City Schools. The EDGE program focuses on a set of core concepts (KCS Portrait of a Graduate) that are embedded throughout our Pre-K-12 grade curriculum.

We aim to develop globally competitive students. Moreover, we acknowledge that growth as a leader and learner is more complex than mastery of reading and math alone. Based on what our students, families, community, and region have told us, we have considered ways to enhance the experience for all students in KCS.

The Kingsport EDGE addresses the following: To be globally competitive, students need exposure to new content, problem-solving, industry engagement, and leadership opportunities. As we continue to be innovative, we work with universities and industry partners to determine what gives all students an "edge." Clear consensus was we needed to provide opportunities for experiential learning to develop next-generation skills.
