This is an example of a teacher who will be placed on the new teacher pay scale at a step higher than their actual years of experience. In this example the teacher has a bachelor's degree and as of the end of fiscal year 19-20 they have 7 years of experience.  In the current year, they are on step 9 of the single lane pay scale with a salary of $50,000.  We will place this teacher on the new pay scale at the closest step that represents at least the same amount of salary that they receive in 19-20.  Since this teacher will be placed at a higher step than their current years of experience, we will consider half steps for this placement.  For example, on the new teacher pay scale, step 8 has a salary of $49,800.  Step 9 had a salary of $51,000.  If we create a step 8.5, that step would be $50,400. In this scenario this teacher will be placed on step 8.5 for the 2021 school year which will represent a $400 increase. So they will be 1.5 steps above their actual years experience. In future years this teacher will receive half step increases until the pay scale catches up to the teacher's years of experience. In this example we are using the 2021 pay scale which does not reflect any future pay adjustment to that scale. So in fiscal year 2021-22 the teacher will be placed on step 9 and as of the end of the 2021 school year the teacher would have 8 years experience and the salary for fiscal year 2021 would  $51,000. The next year the teacher will be placed on step 9.5 at $51,600. The teacher with a 9 years experience. In the fiscal year 2023-24 the teacher placed on step 10 and as of the beginning of that year the teacher would have 10 years experience the salary of a $52,200. In the next fiscal year, fiscal year 2025, the teacher would receive the full step increase from Step 10 to Step 11 with a new salary of $53,400 and the teacher would have 11 years experience as of the beginning of that year and the teacher would be on the step that represents their actual years of experience and the teacher would receive the full step increases from then on. So that is an example of a teacher that would be placed on the teacher pay scale ahead of their actual years of experience.
