Like most of you, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the health situation with our students and adults. We’ve been monitoring attendance data every day since coming back from winter break, seeing what the local impact is on what has been a national outbreak of flu and other illnesses.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of our educators, nurses, and custodians, we’ve been able to maintain a fairly strong attendance rate since break. But over the past few days, there has been a continual increase in both student and staff absences due to illness.
In an effort to help break the cycle of sickness in our community, all Kingsport City Schools will be closed on Monday, February 10th and Tuesday, February 11th. In consulting with health professionals, this will provide a chance to minimize the transmission of illness between students and staff and allow those that are already ill to recover.
Also, regarding tomorrow's schedule (Friday, February 7th): Please be aware that parent-teacher conferences, ECLC, and athletic events will still operate as scheduled tomorrow. We are notifying you of next week's closing now so you will have as much time as possible to plan.
Kingsport City Schools will be closed on Monday, February 10th and Tuesday, February 11th due to illness. Students and staff will return to class on Wednesday, February 12th. Be well, and have a great weekend.
Please note: The Centers for Disease Control recommends that anyone with flu-like symptoms should stay home until fever free for 24-hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
