Johnson Elementary Named a 2024 Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll School by Franklin Covey

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Andrew Johnson Elementary School has been named a Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll School by Franklin Covey Company. The purpose of the Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll is to offer a compelling yearly target that schools can work toward every year to serve as a model to other Leader in Me Schools in using a culture of leadership to drive academic results. Johnson Elementary is the only school in the State of Tennessee receiving this prestigious honor in the Leader In Me category, Exemplary Academic Proficiency.

Lighthouse Schools that show excellent academic performance on state or national standards earn an annual Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll school recognition. The Academic Honor Roll will be automatically awarded for one of two standards: Exemplary Academic Proficiency or Exemplary Academic Growth.

"We are deeply honored to be recognized as a 2024 Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll school,” said Brett Herron, Principal of Johnson Elementary. “This distinction is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and collaboration of the entire Johnson Elementary community—our students, educators, families, and supporters. Achieving a top percentile ranking for academic proficiency in our state underscores our commitment to creating an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. We will proudly display this honor as a symbol of what is possible when we come together to empower our students and inspire their success."

The Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll is determined through the data analysis of an independent nonprofit—Schooldigger.com—a website focused on empowering families with reliable data about the performance of their children’s school. The Schooldigger.com algorithm scores on a percentile ranking, comparing like schools across the state. Ranking is done at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. Schools with students in more than one of these groups have the opportunity to qualify at each of these levels.
  • Exemplary Academic Proficiency: Lighthouse Schools will be eligible for Academic Honor Roll if the latest state test data places the school in at least the 85th percentile in the state.
  • Exemplary Academic Growth: Lighthouse Schools will be eligible for Academic Honor Roll if the latest state test data places the school in at least the 50th percentile in the state and the school has at least a 5 percentile increase in rankings from the previous year’s data.
The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model—developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. It is based on secular principles and practices of personal, interpersonal, and organizational effectiveness.
