The Kingsport City Schools Maintenance & Custodial Department supports safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities districtwide. The team includes 17 maintenance staff, 65 custodians, an office assistant, a Custodial Field Supervisor, and a department supervisor.

Together, they maintain over 1.5 million square feet across 14 schools and the Administrative Support Center, care for 150 acres, manage 900+ HVAC units, and complete more than 5,000 work orders each year. Each custodian maintains an average of 23,000 square feet.

The team handles HVAC, electrical, security, flooring, carpentry, painting, roofing, refrigeration, and energy efficiency. The Custodial Field Supervisor is also certified in playground inspections and ensures high cleaning standards through quality products and training.
