The purpose of this informational video is to inform elementary school families of specifics regarding how elementary schools will operationalize the KCS Reopening Plan that can be found on www.k12k.com. Take note, since the time of this recording, per the Sullivan County Mayor's executive order, masks are now required for all students and staff.

Greetings KCS families! Now that you've had the opportunity to review the KCS back-to-school plan, we wanted to provide some specifics regarding how the plan will be operationalized at our elementary schools. In the next couple of minutes we will walk you though the major components of your child's day and the safety measures you can expect to see. When you arrive at school know that faculty and staff will be modeling the practice of wearing masks. We strongly encourage families to talk to their children about the importance of wearing a mask at school. Wearing a mask keeps our school community healthy. We show our care for the school community by wearing a mask and we are strongly suggesting that everyone wears one. At the start of the school day students will be temperature checked before they enter the building. The school start time has been moved from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to allow extra time to disinfect buses and complete these student temperature checks.  You will also notice schools spreading students out as possible while they're waiting to go class or eating breakfast. While students are in the classroom teachers will make arrangements for them to have their own work supplies as much as possible. Pencil boxes or pouches to assist with keeping materials clean and tidy. Sudents will have assigned seats and areas to work within their classrooms. To assist with cleaning measures, electrostatic sprayers have been purchased for each school and spray bottles with disinfectant are being provided for each classroom for additional cleaning throughout the day. We all know how important hand washing is and always has been. In Kingsport City Schools, students will have increased opportunities to wash their hands at hands washing stations and hand sanitizing stations. Kingsport City Schools district has purchased 400 additional hand sanitizing stations. Students will be washing their hands before and after lunch, before and after recess, and before and after related arts, and other times throughout their school day. To ensure they are in transitioning from one space to another, they are doing so with clean hands. So I'm sure your children are wondering about this part of the school day; recess. Yes, we will be having recess. However, schools will be maximizing the use of their campus to assign classes a designated play area that will be rotated among the grade level. Playing with students in their respective homerooms within these designate areas throughout the campus will minimize exposure to other students in the grade level. Students will also be required to wash hands before and after recess. Hello Kingsport City Schools families! When we return to school, students will will be moving throughout our budiling each day and we want to create the safest environment possible when students are in our hallways and our stairwells. Whenever possible students will be escorted from point A to point B by their classroom teachers and lines that allow for appropriate distancing between classes. Each school will designate specific directional flows of traffic and hallways, high traffic areas, and stairwells. Our schools have developed routines for student movement from one location to another and we will teach expectations for these procedures once we return to school. We know that the return to school has families families feeling full of emotions. In response to that each school will be scheduling time at the beginning or end of each day to offer children a time to gather together through open conversation, to communicate their feelings, and to learn strategies to regulate their emotions. In addition to our school counselor will be holding class sessions with students as well as meeting in small and individual groups in order to serve the needs of our students. Each school clinic has a designiated space for students who are running a temperatue or showing other symptoms. This designated space will allow students to be evaluated and supported while away from other students. Students who have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be sent home. Students may return to school after being symptom-free and fever free for a minimum of three (3) days. Greetings from the Kennedy Elementary cafeteria. This year all principals will be increasing spacing in our cafeterias. Additionally, students will have assigned seats. We want to let you know that this year, we will not have any visitors in our cafteria. This is to minimize potential exposure to our students. We thank you for understanding. In the yellow zone this year, many of our schools will implement a plan where students eat in their classrooms. In the elementary schools, students will not be required to enter their lunch pin. Our goal in this video is to share ways that we are working to keep you safe and to give you as much information as possible as you make your decision about your child's educational future. We know you'll have more questions and we excourage you to reach out to your child's school for the answers. By now you should have received an email requesting to know whether your child will be participating face-to-face in our school or doing remote learning option. We want to give you enough information to help you make an informed decision. Thank you for your continued support as we continue to work to benefit our communities most valuable asset, our children.
