WHAT: Dobyns-Bennett High School Competitive Marching Band Finishes 6th in Bands of America Grand National Championship

The Dobyns-Bennett High School Competitive Marching Band has completed its competition season in Indianapolis, IN at the 2017 Bands of America Grand National Championships finals by placing 6th out of the top 100 bands from among 22,000 high school music programs in the United States.

The top 100 bands in America competed in preliminary rounds on Thursday and Friday. The Top 37 bands in prelims moved to semi-finals, which took place Saturday morning and afternoon. The Top 12 bands in semi-finals moved to the final round, Saturday evening.

Dobyns-Bennett placed higher in finals than any other band in Class AAA. The Grand National Championships is the most competitive High School Marching Band event in the country. Dobyns-Bennett is only the second Tennessee band to ever make finals at the Grand National Championships and the only Tennessee band to do it twice. The 6th place finish is the highest in school history.

Overall finals scores include:

  1. Carmel HS, IN – 97.500
  2. Broken Arrow HS, OK – 96.925
  3. Avon HS, IN – 96.475
  4. Marcus HS, TX – 95.700
  5. Flower Mound HS, TX – 95.625
  6. Dobyns-Bennett HS, TN – 92.725
