BOE Work Session Notes - May 12, 2016

The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education held a work session on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Several key items were discussed, including:
  • Dialogue and round-table conversation between the Board of Education members and KCS principals, and
  • A report on the recent National School Boards Association conference.
Detailed Work Session Notes
Tonight, the format of the work session was adjusted to provide an opportunity for a round-table discussion with Board members and the KCS principals.  The information shared included:
  • A review of the KCS Guiding Tenets, including how the tenets are developed, reviewed, communicated, and drive the work done throughout the district.
  • A discussion regarding the instructional visioning that has been occurring, and how that will drive critical instructional work in the future.
  • A look at key instructional priorities, including a focus on critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity/innovation.
  • Considering the current and anticipated challenges that should be addressed as schools work to maximize student achievement.
 
Board President Mrs. Carrie Upshaw, Board Vice President Mrs. Susan Local, and Board Member Dr. Karen Reed-Wright presented a review of the recent National School Boards Association conference, which was held in Boston, MA on April 9-11, 2016.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 6 p.m.  The meeting will take place in the Tennessee Room of the Administrative Support Center (400 Clinchfield Street).
