The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education held a work session on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Several key items were discussed, including:
- A report on KCS facilities and maintenance work performed during the summer of 2015.
- A report on the 2015 KCS administrative work retreat, which was held July 12-14, 2015.

Mr. Bill Shedden, Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodial Services, provided a report on KCS facilities and maintenance work performed during this past summer.
- In addition to professional trainings and regular custodial work, maintenance staff completed multiple projects, including:
- Replacement and improvements to flooring.
- Improvements to the D-B cafeteria.
- Repair of water damage.
- Roof repairs.
- Electrical work.
- Refinishing of gym floors and other flooring.
- Repairing damaged asphalt.
- Painting.
- Improvements to HVAC systems.
Mrs. Christy Free (Principal, Kennedy Elementary), Dr. Krissy Turner (Principal, Jackson Elementary), and Mrs. Heather Wolf (Principal, Jackson Elementary), provided a report on the KCS Administrative Work Retreat, which was held on July 12-14, 2015.
- The annual retreat provided an opportunity for KCS leadership to work collaboratively to plan for the upcoming school year. Key work included:
- Reviewing and updating the KCS Guiding Tenets, including the Core Values, Goals, Core Competencies, Key Practices, and Guiding Questions.
- Reviewing the 2014-15 school year and outlining priorities for the 2015-16 school year.
- Exploring and analyzing the book The Principal: Three Keys to Maximizing Impact, by Michael Fullan, which was read by all principals prior to the session.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be a regular meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Tennessee Room of the Administrative Support Center (400 Clinchfield Street).
