BOE Work Session Notes - February 25, 2025

The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education held a work session on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.  Several important agenda items were discussed, including:
  • A report on the Innovative School Models grant and how it is being used throughout KCS; and 
  • The KCS FY 2024-25 2nd Quarter Financial Report.

Dr. Brian Cinnamon, Chief Academic Officer - Secondary, presented an update on the Innovative School Models grant.
  • Innovative School Models is a Tennessee program for middle and high schools that include experiences designed to develop and foster a culture of college and career readiness.
  • Funding is used at KCS middle schools and at Dobyns-Bennett High School/D-B EXCEL to support career development programming.

David Frye, Chief Finance Officer, presented the KCS 2nd Quarter Financial Report.
  • The report provided revenue and budget summaries for the 2024-25 fiscal year, through December 31, 2024.
  • Overall, expenditures as of December 31, 2024 were approximately 42% of budget, which is in line for that time of year.

The next session of the Board of Education will be a meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 6 p.m.  The meeting will take place in the Tennessee Room of the Administrative Support Center (400 Clinchfield Street).
